Chalk Artist Certification Program
For many years, street painters have demonstrated their skills and talents.
A certification system has been established in Italy to recognize the skill and proficiency of an artist.
The CAN has established a similar certification-recognition system with four levels.

- Simplice ( Apprentice )
- Qualificato ( Qualifying Artist )
- Maestro ( Master Artist )
Why apply for the certification program with (CAN.)
The CAN certification program is a guide for festivals, events and marketing firms to understand the skills that a member has acquired. CAN receives opportunities for events and jobs and will recommend members who have gone through the formal process of applying for certification.
In addition to receiving the certification, for a small annual fee, members are added to the CAN website. The links will be categorized by levels along with a description for clarification.

How to Apply
Each applicant artist shall provide a log or entry folder supported by colored photographs, programs, press clippings, website links, and/or supporting documentation to the CAN MASTERS. A panel of CAN officers and experienced artists will review the works and make decisions about the certifications.
An application fee of $10 will be collected if qualified.

Designation Qualifications
SEMPLICE (APPRENTICE)
QUALIFICATO (QUALIFYING ARTIST)
MAESTRO (MASTER ARTIST)
GRAN MAESTRO (GRAND MASTER ARTIST)
- Apprentice – entry level
- Beginning street painter, chalk artists
- Participate in 5 street painting festivals or events as part of a group or solo.
- Attend at least 1 street painting demonstration or classes.
- Produce artworks of people or nature (landscape, animals, seascape, plants)
QUALIFICATO (QUALIFYING ARTIST)
- Qualify as an SIMPLICE artist (meet all requirements above).
- Participate in a total of 10 street painting festivals or events; 7 or more as a solo artist.
- Provide a program or demonstration on the art of street painting.
- Write an article or column for an art publication or newsletter covering street painting techniques, events, or observations about the art form.
- Demonstrate an understanding of gridding, pouncing, and freestyle street painting techniques.
- Produce artworks from an original composition and a portrait (facial image)
MAESTRO (MASTER ARTIST)
- Qualify as an QUALIFICATO artist (meet all requirements above).
- Participate in 15 street painting festivals or events, 12 or more as a solo artist.
- Participate in at least one Large Florida Festival
- Lake Worth Street Painting Festival
- Sarasota Chalk Festival
- Clearwater Beach Chalk Art Festival
- Safety Harbor Bloom'n Chalk Festival
- Provide 1 example of educational programs, instruction, demonstrations of street painting.
- Receive an award in a festival of 30 or more street painting artists. Or Be an invited featured artist to 5 or more different chalk art festivals.
- Demonstrate and identify 3 or more styles of chalking technique.
- Produce street paintings in 4 of 8 categories as part of your entries to demonstrate your skills and proficiency.

GRAN MAESTRO (GRAND MASTER ARTIST)
- Qualify as a MAESTRO artist ( meet all requirements above ).
- Registered CAN / FCAA Chalk Artist for 10+ years
- Participate in 50 street painting festivals or events, 40 or more as a solo artist.
- Be an invited featured artist in 10 or more chalk art festivals
- Teamed up and mentored with a student, SEMPLICE or QUALIFICATO chalk artist in at least 1 or more Chalk Art Festivals
- Participate in 3 of 4 Large Florida Festivals
- Lake Worth Street Painting Festival
- Sarasota Chalk Festival
- Clearwater Beach Chalk Art Festival
- Safety Harbor Bloom'n Chalk Festival
- Participate in 1 out of state Chalk Art Festival
- Participate in 1 out of country Chalk Art Festival
- Worked with 5 corporate agencies producing chalk art for a client
- Consultant for 3 new chalk festivals
- Write an Gran Maestro dissertation article, including thesis statement to further chalk art education.
- Represented CAN and judged a Chalk Art Festival
- Represented CAN and taught at a school or educational function
- Produce street paintings of all of the following categories as part of your entries to demonstrate your skills and proficiency.
